Fast Track Injury Clinic at Herston Private Hospital, which is available for patients with work-related and sporting injuries.
The clinic is designed for clinically stable injury patients who need timely assessment, imaging and treatment, but do not require the resources of an Emergency Department.

What we treat
We can assess and manage a broad range of acute injuries, including:
- Suspected and closed fractures
- Sprains and strains
- Workplace injuries
- Sporting injuries
- Shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand injuries
- Hip, knee, ankle and foot injuries
- Finger and thumb injuries
- Lacerations and wounds requiring closure
- Crush injuries
- Tendon and ligament injuries
- Soft-tissue injuries
- Minor falls
- Suitable minor head injuries
- Back and neck injuries in clinically stable patients
- Minor burns
- Animal bites and foreign bodies
- Selected eye injuries, including superficial foreign bodies, corneal abrasions and other minor ocular trauma where there is no concern for penetrating injury or significant visual loss
On-site services
The clinic is located within Herston Private Imaging, providing convenient access to:
- X-ray
- CT
- Fracture assessment and immobilisation
- Splints, moon boots, crutches and other supports
- Wound cleaning, exploration and suturing
- Eye assessment and management of selected minor eye injuries
- Analgesia and appropriate medications
- Tetanus vaccination and antibiotics where indicated
- Orthopaedic and hand-surgery referral pathways
- Medical certificates and work-capacity assessment
- Follow-up and return-to-work coordination
X-ray and CT are bulk billed for eligible Medicare card holders.
WorkCover injuries
For an employee presenting with a work-related injury covered by WorkCover, there is no out-of-pocket cost to the patient.
We can manage the patient from their initial injury assessment through imaging, treatment, certification, specialist referral and subsequent follow-up.
Sports injuries
We also accept private patients with acute sporting injuries.
The patient fee is $395 out-of-pocket, with X-ray and CT bulk billed for eligible Medicare card holders.
When to use an Emergency Department instead
Patients with major trauma, haemodynamic instability, significant haemorrhage, markedly reduced consciousness, major open fractures, neurovascular compromise requiring immediate intervention, major burns, penetrating eye injuries or significant acute visual loss, or injuries clearly requiring hospital admission or immediate surgery should continue to be transported to an appropriate Emergency Department.
